In the midst of beautiful vineyards, forests and orchards lies Germany‘s first theme park, Tripsdrill.

The addition of two new Vekoma roller coasters, Family Boomerang Coaster Volldampf (Full Steam Ahead) and Suspended Thrill Coaster Hals-über-Kopf (Head Over Heels), provided us with a perfect reason to make our first visit.

As well as visiting the theme park and adjacent wildlife park, we stayed in a delightful treehouse at the nature resort.

Nature Resort

The nature resort is located in front of the wildlife park, and just a short 10-minute walk to the theme park. Whether you are staying high up in the treetops or in the middle of the countryside, a night in a treehouse or a shepherd’s wagon is a special experience. We stayed for two nights in September so that we could make the most of everything that Tripsdrill has to offer.

Each morning, an extensive breakfast is provided in the rustic tavern Wildsau-Schenke and in the evening a trailer provides a limited menu of takeaway options.

Admission to the wildlife park is free for guests staying overnight at the nature resort, and discounted tickets for the theme park are available.

Our large treehouse, named Ahornwipfel, could sleep up to 5-6 people. On the lower floor: a very comfortable double bed, seating area with flat-screen TV, fridge, coffee machine, free Wi-Fi, floor heating, minibar, bathroom with shower, toilet, hair dryer and mirror. On the upper floor mezzanine: four single beds. The treehouse also had a private veranda with a relaxing view of nature.

The decor is charming and we loved all the quirky features like the watering can as a shower. It felt really cosy and it was so peaceful. At night we enjoyed stargazing through the tree canopy and would recommend bringing some games to play. It's a remote location and there are no other facilities overnight so take all the essentials you might need and some money as no cash machine is available.

Theme Park

100 original attractions have been created here since 1929, including the wooden roller coaster Mammut and the launched roller coaster Karacho – just two of the highlights for adults and older children. But there's also plenty for the little ones at Tripsdrill, since many of the attractions are designed specifically for them.

Other major rides include a bobsled style roller coaster, a bathtub themed flume, a river rapids complete with whirlpool, and a highly themed Sky Fly. Many of the bigger attractions have extensively themed queues with educational displays, so there's plenty to keep you entertained while waiting.

Tripsdrill includes a plethora of unique rides and rare attractions that make the theme park unusual, and there are delightful animated scenes around the park based on German fairy tales and fables. The park is unbelievably attractive, set in an idyllic landscape and heavily planted with trees, flowers and seasonal displays.

New roller coasters

These new rides have intertwined layouts, which means that the tracks of both roller coasters cross several times. All of the new theming elements added this year finish off these roller coasters really well.

Volldampf runs forwards and backwards and is inspired by traditional song Schwäbischen Eisenbahn (Swabian Railway). The design of the roller coaster train is in the style of a 19th century steam locomotive.

Hals-über-Kopf tells the local folk story Sieben Schwaben (Seven Swabians). This roller coaster is more than 30 meters high and about 800 meters long, with four inversions, several airtime moments, and a top speed of 80 km/h.

We enjoyed multiple rides in the front, middle and back rows and based on this we would recommend the front row for the best overall experience. It's incredibly smooth and the feeling of flying is especially heightened. The many interactions with the other roller coaster add an extra level of excitement.

Wildlife Park

The wildlife park at Tripsdrill is home to 50 different animal species, but hand feeding the deer is a particular highlight. We had a lovely time walking around the 47-hectare park looking out for wolves, lynx, bears and wildcats. For the best viewing opportunities make sure to note the timings of the feeding sessions, and don't miss the birds of prey flight demonstrations.

Many of the animals are native to Europe and the park has a natural feel, so it's very different to a typical zoo where you might find more exotic species. Other features of the park include a barefoot trail and a large adventure playground with climbing forest, so families could easily spend a whole day here.

With the combination of nature resort, theme park and wildlife park, Tripsdrill is an ideal short break destination. For more information and to a book a stay head over to www.tripsdrill.de

We would like to thank Tripsdrill for making our trip possible and our stay so memorable.
