Plopsaland Belgium has announced that its highly anticipated new attraction, the Maya the Bee Flying Cinema (Vliegende Cinema), will open to guests on Saturday, 13 March 2027.
The opening date was revealed in the debut episode of a new making-of video series documenting the project. The series offers theme park fans an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the construction and development - featuring insights from Studio 100 co-founder Gert Verhulst and Plopsa Group CEO Carl Lenaerts.
A World-Class Aerial Journey Across Europe
The Flying Cinema promises a state-of-the-art immersive experience. Guests will take their seats in a moving gondola positioned before a massive projection dome. By synchronising dynamic motion with high-definition visuals, immersive audio, and olfactory special effects, the attraction will create the convincing sensation of soaring freely through the air.
During the flight, visitors will accompany the beloved character Maya the Bee on a virtual tour of Europe's most famous destinations. The journey includes aerial views over colourful Dutch tulip fields, the iconic canals of Venice, the landmarks of Paris, and the scenic greenery of Plopsaland Ardennes. To deliver top-tier audiovisual quality, Plopsaland is collaborating with global technology leader Barco, based in Belgium.
As a unique panorama flight simulator, the attraction represents a European premiere for its specific ride type. Construction began at the end of September 2025. Work is currently progressing on schedule, with initial interior decoration underway and the installation of the immense film dome inside the building. Over the coming months, teams will integrate the complex technical systems, detailed thematic elements, and audiovisual infrastructure.

The Cornerstone of Plopsaland Plaza
The Flying Cinema serves as the flagship centerpiece of Plopsaland Plaza, a master development representing a €25 million investment. This marks the largest single investment in the history of Plopsaland Belgium.
Designed as a vibrant central hub within the resort, Plopsaland Plaza will combine rides, dining, and entertainment. Beyond the Flying Cinema, the expanded plaza will feature:
- The Grand Café, offering full-service dining in an atmospheric setting.
- A modern bowling alley and dedicated arcade area.
- A completely redesigned main station for the resort's iconic Plopsa Express train.
In addition to enhancing the daytime park experience, Plopsaland Plaza is set to bolster the resort's night-time appeal along the Belgian coast. During the summer, the plaza will remain open with free admission after the main theme park closes. This will allow resort hotel guests, coastal tourists, and local residents to enjoy evening dining, drinks, and entertainment. During these extended evening hours, the Flying Cinema will remain operational for visitors purchasing individual attraction tickets.
