Dutch theme park Toverland has announced a monumental €98 million investment strategy that will see the park transform into a multi-day destination resort.
The ambitious masterplan includes the Ithaka Resort, the park's first-ever permanent accommodation, a major new dark ride in Port Laguna, and a total reimagining of a fan-favourite attraction.
Toverland is officially stepping into a new era. Following the recent approval of a new zoning plan by the local municipality, the park has secured the green light to expand its borders and elevate its guest experience.
A New Journey in Port Laguna
With a total investment of €98 million, funded through a mix of own capital and external financing, the Sevenum-based park is preparing for its most significant growth spurt since the opening of Avalon in 2018.
The entrance area of the park, Port Laguna, is set for a major transformation. Currently known as a vibrant Mediterranean-style promenade for shopping and dining, the area will soon host its first major attraction. Toverland has confirmed plans for a large-scale dark ride, which is currently in the early design stages. While the theme remains under wraps, the addition of a high-quality indoor experience in the entrance plaza will provide a significant draw for guests regardless of the weather.
The Evolution of Maximus' Blitz Bahn
One of the most notable changes in the plan involves the popular ride Maximus’ Blitz Bahn. Toverland has announced that the existing Wiegand ride will eventually make way for a brand-new attraction.
While the park was quick to reassure fans that the "strengths and spirit" of the current ride will be preserved in the new concept, it will be a "different type" of attraction altogether. A closing date for the current Blitz Bahn has not yet been set, but the park has promised to keep fans updated on when they can take their final laps with Maximus.

From Theme Park to Resort Destination
Perhaps the biggest news for fans traveling from further afield is the move toward on-site accommodation. For years, Toverland has experimented with its "Pop-up Summer Camp," but this new investment plan solidifies the creation of a permanent hotel offer, the Ithaka Resort.
This transition into a resort destination will allow Toverland to compete with other major European players like Efteling and Phantasialand, encouraging guests to stay for multiple days.
Behind the Scenes Improvements
The investment isn't just about what guests see. Toverland is also focusing on its "Magic Makers" (the staff) by constructing a new workshop and a dedicated staff complex called the "Clubhuis," which will feature modern offices and break rooms. Work on the new workshop is already underway.
When Can We Expect the Magic?
The €98 million plan is intended to be rolled out gradually over the coming years. By spreading the investment, Toverland aims to consistently offer something new to its visitors while ensuring the infrastructure of the park grows at a sustainable pace.
